We've nothing like that. Perhaps more sailors on the beach would be sober men if we had. [He frowns, thoughtful. New ideas root slowly in his head, but he can at least see the sense of the the idea.]

Perhaps. I find sometimes what helps the most, is just talking to someone who's been through the same things you're going through. So you know you're not alone.

And you don't find that leads to two folk drinking instead of one?

[He laughs a little.] You would think it would, wouldn't it? I don't know, maybe it's not a perfect system. But I find in my experience it works more than it doesn't.

Can't find fault much with that. So long as people get helped, right?

It is a novel idea, I grant you. To make a profession out of commiseration. Perhaps it's not a bad one. [But he'll sit on judgement until he's really thought about it.]

Well, in my case, I find I was doing it as something of a hobby anyway. So why not get paid for it, at that point?

It's probably an idea that takes a little while to catch on, though. Like, a few centuries' worth.
