[Dated pre-kitchen explosion, before the power failure is really noticeable]
[Filtered to wardens - minus Bianca, minus Mistborn]

I need a few good strapping lads, with sturdy arms and stout hearts, who are not afraid of the Mistborn inmates. The man named Zane has defied my authority like a fool; like a fool he shall suffer, and we shall restore some needful discipline to this lost vessel.

There will be, of course, rewards for your labors.

[Hall Spam- Zane, cronies, rescue party]
[The good lieutenant can walk softly when he chooses, and has at least one loyal -- or well bought-- crony to tell him Zane's comings and goings. He waits until Bianca is accounted for and Zane is alone, and then gathers his group and sets his trap.

He waits with his crew outside an empty room near where Zane must come-- with warnings, of course, that they are to have as little metal on their persons as possible. ]

[ Zane is always cautious, always paranoid, but at times like this, he has pushed it consciously to the back of his mind. After his shift, when he's clothed again, when he's not under her eyes, his thoughts turn to Risen. Aslan. The one who endured every one of Zane's abuses, every cut and bruise, patient and absorbing because he thought it would do good. And it did - and now Zane owes him. Forever.

Being with Risen is what he looks forward to. Every day.

He goes to clean himself up by the inmate showers. He won't take the time to shower, to wash off the rose and sandalwood and smoke smell, but he does intend to wash the oil off his hands, run fingers through his hair.

He is not burning tin or pewter, though he has reserves of both inside his stomach, and not watching for an ambush. ]

[ He goes still. This may be a mistake, he knows, as he does it: attacking quickly, in the first moment, the first second can give him a valuable edge. But he doesn't want to get himself into greater trouble. He doesn't want to provoke anything that could be soothed.

Rapid-fire, he flares bronze, steel, brass; bronze tells him there are no other Mistborn nearby, brass to - as softly and subtly as he can - Soothe the both of them, nudge their emotions down to something a little less fever pitch. There is a technique with steel, to, to bend bullets away from the body, throwing something like a field out around the skin. It requires constant concentration, constant burning, and it works better on the old pistols - like Bush's - than the newer ones, like Chris's. Works better at long range than short. There's no guarantee that he could make it work here.

He keeps his hands visible, turns around slowly, doesn't reach for any new metal vials. He knows that would be an automatic punishment; he's stuck with what he has. A couple minutes of flared pewter, no more than that; a little more iron; a little more steel. He needs to find a way to defuse this. He should have been more careful. ]

If there's a problem, we should call Bianca.

[Ben doesn't have any guns. He has a knife, the blade made of glass, but it's not in his hands. He doesn't need it.

Had Zane moved in the first second, Ben would have been ready: it's what he's here for, though he doesn't speak or make the overt threats the other two do. He doesn't even crowd around them, not with his speed. He can be within range at a moment's notice, and he watches from a few feet away with the silent intensity of some jungle cat with its prey in sight.

His attention stays on the target, but he moves to obey the command immediately. The X5 is well trained and deceptively strong: if he can get both of Zane's wrists, the hold he twists his arms into behind his back will be secure and solid, only painful if he struggles.

If Zane's powers are working, Chris' bloodlust is rarely soothed away except with the promise of revenge killing. This is what he likes; ganging up on someone seemingly powerless, ready to grind them into the dirt. He doesn't even like Bush all that much, but he loathes Zane, and is willing to put up with a temporary partnership to give the Mistborn what's coming to him.

He steps back a foot to let Ben take over; good. His cowardly self won't let him go near Zane until he's certain he's incapacitated. Chris looks to Bush, curious about his own orders. He likes to be in charge, but this was Bush's idea and he'll defer to his authority.]

Like when it becomes harder than he expects to move him, Ben merely applies more strength and twists his hold a bit more, shoving Zane towards the door as Bush speaks. He doesn't bother to listen, letting the accusations flow past like a river; he will be sound in his duties.

He waits for the struggle he can feel building beneath the mistborn's skin.

[ Bush is close, and Zane won't get a better chance. Not like this.

The threat is a miscalculation. Zane already believes this is all going to end. He already believes that they either drown, and die, now, or they become the other Barge. It doesn't matter which is truly the flood and which isn't. It ends. Punishment after this doesn't matter.

You see people. You don't see what they did. You see them. That's what Nathan said to him. And in this splintered instant, this broken second, he sees Bush, in truth. The failures written across him. The petty vendettas, and the insecurity, and yes, yes, he could destroy this man.

So now, when Bush is close, he acts.

He shoves hard against every gun in the room, every piece of metal on Bush or Chris. Pushing on the guns and Pulling on a metal bulkhead swings him into an arc, one that will slam Ben between him and the wall with shocking force if Ben doesn't get out of the way. His gamble is that he won't get fatally stabbed, not immediately - that he'll still be able to burn pewter and fight if he does. ]

[Ben feels it coming, but the one thing he can't anticipate is what, exactly, it will be. An attack certainly but the other two wardens stumble unpredictably and then there's a shot, and then Zane is moving.

The X5 slams into the wall but he rebounds with the momentum, shoving back into Zane with the grip he maintains on his wrist,
twisting with the intent to break bone at the same time as he punches for the inmate's head, precise and swift.

He ducks and blurs out of range, anticipating the next gunshot.

But he comes back, climbing to his feet and raising his guns again. He won't be taken down, not by this chump.

Happy to oblige Bush's orders, Chris unloads both gun clips as fast as he can into Zane, stepping back away and waiting for Ben to clear the scene. He pumps the Mistborn with as much lead as he can muster, and when his guns are spent he drops them, scooting back away and waiting for the man to go down at last]

[ He burns Steel. Like he never has before; the bullets are a storm, a flood, but he bends them away. Feels an impact in his thigh and another at his shoulder. Palm pressed to his temple where the gun hit, other hand against the wall, his eyes wide-wild and his breathing fast.

A sharp gesture of his hand, and any bullets loose are gathered and thrown at lethal speeds - not aimed, unlikely to hit anyone, but maybe enough to buy him a little more time. He has pewter flared now, running out faster than it should, but without it his leg might buckle.

In the same movement that gathers the swirl of bullets, he throws one of his knives at Ben, a smooth pull from the thigh sheath to the air. ]

[His bronze is back. Only half-strength, unlike the powers the wardens considered useful, but between hemalurgy and years of savanting, Marsh's range with half his bronze is a little further than Zane at full. The pulses aren't Vin or Kelsier - he keeps track of them both as well as he can. Pewter and steel, both flared, both close to running out - it's a fight that Zane is probably about to lose, soon.

He and Zane have never been - close. Zane is too tangled in Bianca, and Marsh hates her with the quiet, stony, endless hatred he once reserved for the steel ministry. But Zane cares for him, in some strange way, and watching him struggle against the madness of his spike gave Marsh dim hope that someday Kelsier might do the same. It's an odd, disjointed bond, but Marsh wants to help him.

Marsh hears the shots as he runs.

He shoves the door in, interposes himself between Zane and Ben as fast as he can. There's no finesse to it just hurtling forward, a deliberate collision course. He can't quite bring himself to draw his axes, not yet, but if he can keep Ben occupied the others shouldn't be difficult.]

[ The bullet was sheer luck, and it's in the next instant that he runs out of pewter. He had even less than he thought, or he was flaring it too hard to stave off the effects of the gunshots. So the pain from both hits him at once, turning his motion into a stagger.

Marsh's arrival is the only thing that prevents him from certainly, certainly losing this fight. He allows himself a split-second to gape, and then he pushes into motion, attacking Bush. He moves to disarm the sailor, drawing a knife as he does so. ]

Chris, meanwhile, had had more than enough. He's ready to end this, and has taken the time to step back and reload his guns. Now fully armed, he takes aim with both hands, centering his guns at the small of Zane's back to cripple him...

...and just as swiftly, is torn back from his shot by a large, furious pirate captain.

Davy Jones has seen too many of the cruelties his warden has inflicted on himself and others, and has kept relatively silent because it is, in his mind, all of the normal harsh ways of a life at sea. He too was not so different, weeks and even days before he came to the Barge. But a change of heart landed him both his death and his place here as an inmate, to be shown firsthand the error of his ways in turning from the cruel life of the sea.

But the flood has instilled some new, fearsome courage in him. Here, he'd been shown a way to a new and better life, without cruelty or meanness of heart, where the strong don't prey upon the weak and bad men can turn good again.

But they won't get the chance, if his bloody warden doesn't stop beating Zane to death.

With a roar, he casts the teenage boy in his hand aside with alarming strength, hearkening back to an age where he had a claw for an arm and was significantly more shellfish than man. Not stopping, he charges forward and punches Bush in the nose with muscle befitting a man who's lived many a lifetime aboard a ship.

All he'd needed was a moment. A second to breathe, and to flare tin, make the burst of pain force him back into coherence. He's strong without the pewter, too. He can handle this.

He finds anchor points in all four walls, floor and ceiling, something that never would have been possible where he comes from. And he springs off, flying at Bush feet-first so he would dash him against the wall. Gravity doesn't matter, not when Zane has steel and iron; he can move with impunity, use every corner of the room. He won't be pinned down again, no matter how much pain he's in. He won't. He won't.

[The bullets are more than Ben is willing to bother with and he blurs back, far back, out of range of the whirlwind of lead going on around Zane. This is why he doesn't bother with projectile weapons, but here and now they're just one of many threats, which run themselves out eventually.

He's on his way back in when the knife whistles past, slicing through the top layer of skin and muscle on his arm and drawing him up short, and then Marsh is in his face.

The X5 reacts, striking out with one fist and then the other, then ducking to a side though it's just with regular agility and not his transgenic advantage. If he gets around to where he can strike a clear blow at the base of Marsh's skull he should go down for the count, and Ben can return his attention to his fellow wardens and the other unruly inmate.
